STRUGGLING

It takes ages for me to pack every time I go abroad.
This time I don't have to pack a bunch of pretty dresses
and a ton of shoes, just nice casual comfortable clothes
for long walks around the city.
I still struggle with the toiletries!
Oh well, I have until 3 AM to finish, that's when we're
leaving for the airport.

FEATURED

One of my sweet readers has featured me in a very
stylish Youtube clip for rocking mums to be.
I feel very honored.
Thank you darling.

CRAZY AND KITSCH

I'm doing the last bit of research for our trip to Prague.
I'm mostly searching for addresses to second hand shops to
be honest, I still remember my way around in Prague since
the last time I was there.

One thing I didn't see last time was this crazy house.
It's called Dancing House and it's created by Frank Gehry.
Since me and my man are suckers for the weird and unusual
I really hope we have time to go and see it.

I really love odd buildings and my absolute favorite is the
Jubilee Synagogue, also known as the Jerusalem Synagogue,
in Prague. It's so colorful and kitsch.

Another building that's super kitsch is the Great Synagogue
in Pilsen, also Czech Republic.
It looks like a synagogue for Barbie. Don't you think?

I can't believe we're going the day after tomorrow.
I'm so looking forward to go away and just relax and enjoy
a bit of culture for once.
My man said that it's nice to not have to bother looking all
cool and rocking. I totally agreed and said to him that we're
not going as rockabilly's - we're going as Jews.

EVEN MORE FINDS!

Oh my word!
I don't think I've ever been this lucky at a car boot sale as I
was today.
I can't really post all of my finds because they were too many
so this is as usual just a small selection.
I got handbags and gloves from the 1950's/1960's, some neat
stuff to revamp, (I will post these stuff as before and after in
the near future) a vintage scarf for mother in law, brand new
tops, a pair of nice wedges, a tray from the 1950's, Remington
steam rollers for my hair and loads, loads more.
My favorite of the day must be the wicker sewing box on legs
and a vintage Nina Ricci perfume bottle.

The sewing box is in a bit of a state so that will be my revamp
project over Yom Kippur that starts in less than an hour.
This means that I won't eat, drink, have sex, brush my teeth or
even shower for the next 25 hours to repent for my sins.

Wedges, 50 pence.

Tray, 30 pence.

Bags, £1 for the lot.

Nina Ricci pefume bottle, £1.50.

Gloves, 50 pence/pair.

Sewing box, £1.50.

FINDS!

Relaxed day so far.
It's nice and warm outside, feels more like late spring than
early autumn. Way to warm for a jacket or even a cardigan.
I've been making apple sauce with Muscovado sugar and a
lot of cinnamon and I got a whole lot of cool finds at the car
boot sale this morning.

The best find must have been the black autumn/winter coat
from Dorthy Perkins for only £2!
I love the design, very timeless and classic.
I've been looking around for a black coat but haven't found
one that I like yet and to be honest, I don't feel like spending
£50 on a new one.
I had to mend one of the pockets and remove some bobbles
but that was a quick fix.

The cassette case will be absolutely perfect to store craft in
while we're traveling.

I also bought yet another cute 1950's apron to my huge apron
collection. I can't help myself...

1950's apron, 50 pence.

Closeup on the pocket.

Closeup on the edge.

1960's eggcups, 30 pence.

Knitted dress, £1.

Coat, £2.

Vintage cassette case, 20 pence.

I totally forgot to post last weeks finds!
I didn't find much stuff but these are my favorites:

LP, £1.

These books were a present from my man.
The pink one cost £30 new but he got both for only £8.

SAME BUT DIFFERENT

Here's another fascinator I made yesterday.
The picture doesn't do it any justice...

WELCOME TO MY ROOM!

I've meant to post pictures of my hobby room for quite
some time now but I always forget.
It's my favorite place in the house, it's small but bright.
There's tons of cute stuff, most of them from the 1950's,
but it doesn't feel cluttered.
When I first moved here there was some horrible wall
paper and ugly floor so I stripped the walls and painted
them in my favorite green color and laid down wooden
laminate flooring.
Since it's so small it was hard to take proper photos but
here it is in almost all it's glory!

Sewing area.

Books and old tins In which I store hobby material.

My lovely Teak dresser is full of craft stuff.
The cute dolls bring some innocence to my "filthy"
literature collection.

Here's where I sit and flick through books and 1950's
magazines to get inspired.

My Teak sideboard who's filled with unfinished projects
and tons of 1940's/1950's sewing pattern.

Just like my grandma I put flowerpots on odd 1950's
coffee saucers.

Most of the stuff is finds from flea markets and car boot
sales. Not much is new. Everything Teak is Swedish.

NO JUSTICE

I came up with this particular design last night and
I just couldn't wait to get up this morning and start
working on it!
It turned out great but this picture doesn't show off
it's true beauty, unfortunately.
In real life the colors are way more vibrant and the
center of the Orchids sparkles.

TODAY

Today is one of those good days when most things runs
pretty smoothly and the brain is full of creative ideas.
Today is the day when I'm trying to finish some projects.
What have I done so far ?
I went into town to run some errands, met Angela for
a cup of coffee and I also had a look around in the local
charity shops.
I found some cute dusty pink roses that looks like they
are vintage, perfect for a fascinator project.
I also found a very useful skirt for autumn, looks a bit
like Russian folklore but it goes with most things in my
wardrobe since it's black with yellow and red details.
I popped into the library to see if there was anything
interesting in the shelves.
I borrowed a what I call a drool book, a book with a
whole lot of pictures of stuff you would kill for, if you
didn't have any mental boundaries, that is.
Mid-Century Modern all the way!
Read it.

This is my kind of porn...

Finishing a sailor collar.

My new skirt for £2.50.

Lovely roses for a fascinator project.

PEACOCK FASCINATOR

I finally finished this colorful fascinator today.
It's been on my to do list for an awful long time...

THE MAGIC OF ORDINARY DAYS

I had a pretty good day at Goodwood Revival yesterday.
FORGOT TO BRING THE CAMERA!
Me and my man were jiving and made new friends and
I finally got to meet Fleur De Guerre, what a pretty lady!

It was hard to wake up this morning so I sipped my coffee
and flicked through the channels and ended up watching a
movie that I would like to recommend.
The Magic of Ordinary Days.
Set in 1944 Colorado The Magic of Ordinary Days is the
story of a young woman, Livy Dune, who became pregnant
before marriage with a WW2 solider.
Her father decided to deal with the situation, by arranging
a marriage to a shy farmer named Ray.
Livy is polite and civil to her new husband but she harbors
feelings for the father of the baby, and feelings of guilt for
the pregnancy.
Ray, however, is caring, patient, and supportive of Livy, but
the fact that she does not want him hurts him deeply.
Slowly over time the two come to understand and love each
other...

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW...

I finished this wedding fascinator today.
It turned out better than I thought it would and I'm
very pleased. My man even liked it!

Friday 18 September 2009

HAPPY 5770!

Me and my lovely man are celebrating Rosh Hashanah,
the Jewish new year, this weekend.
My man is down in the kitchen making a nice dinner for
tonight and I'm gonna try to doll up and pretend not to
be as ill as I really am. This flu sure is stubborn...

Shana Tova Umetukah*!

* Hebrew for "A good and sweet year."

THERE'S NOTHING SWEETER THAN CHERRIES

I just finished this fascinator hat.
I'm pretty pleased with the result and it looks very sweet on.

TRANSPARENT

I went into town yesterday to run some errands.
As I went past my favorite charity shop I got a hunch
that I would grab a bargain if I only take a minute to
have a rummage.
I didn't even take me half a second to spot this big,
vintage style transparent bag for only 50 pence!
Perfect condition too, it only needed a good clean.

50 pence = 6 Kr, $0.85, € 0.55

MY WEEKEND IN PICTURES

I picked some Ivy during a stroll with my man.

I drank a lot of tea and watched too much TV.

I was too ill to do any cleaning but I did the washing up.

I embellished a £1 top with vintage flowers and pearls.

I cut a girls sailor dress in two, revamping it into a skirt.

Prepared some cherry blossom for hair-combs.

My man made apple and strawberry juice. Yum!

TRY THIS!

My lovely man bought me some elderflower cordial
from Bottle Green yesterday, which was very tasty
and refreshing. The bottle is rather stylish too.
If you can get it, try it.

Cost aroud £2 at Sainsbury's.

Friday 11 September 2009

FORGIVE ME

I forgot to post what I purchased yesterday!
I got these babies at Primark Oxford St. for £13.
I already have a ton of T-strap heels but none with
a shorter heel and that's actually comfortable, so I
got these for everyday running about.
Perfect color for the English autumn too!

Time to crawl back under the cover and wait for
my man to get back from the store with Elderflower
(Fläder) juice and honey cough drops.

CALL IN SICK

I had a great time yesterday with my lovely friend Miss Wink.
I tend to get very nervous when I meet new people but with
her it felt like we'd been hanging out every day, so relaxed.
I love that girl and I hope we meet again, soon.

I feel terrible today.
My throat, head and neck hurts so bad and my left ear start
to act up too. Can't really speak and my skin is sore, can't
wear clothes (my man has got a smile on his face).
I'm gonna call in sick from everything today and just watch
Black Adder and drink tea all day.

Something nice arrived in the post this morning.
Another white wicker handbag.
If you've been reading my blog for a while might remember
that I bought one very similar earlier this year.
This particular one was actually my first purchase on Etsy
for only $30 including shipping!

PAMPERING TIME

Tomorrow morning I'm gonna jump on the buss into
central London, where I'm gonna meet my dear friend
Miss Wink for the first time!
We'd been online friends for over five years or so and
we started to talk on the phone earlier this year.
It's about time we meet up!
I can't wait to go shopping, have too much coffee and
gossip our asses off. I sure hope I get my voice back,
I haven't been able to speak all day!

It's been a busy day for me today.
I decided to mow the lawn in the back and then I ended
up mowing the front as well and trim the bushes.
I'm gonna be sore in the morning.

I also cleaned the house, made Jew soup, went to the
beauty salon to improve my tan (I love freckles) and now
I'm trying to pamper myself by dyeing my brows, scrub
my feet and give my hair a well deserved hair mask.
I'm considering putting some fake nails on for tomorrow
but I can't decide if I should go for a French manicure look
or red nails. What do you think?

ROMANTIC GETAWAY

Me and my man has planned a romantic getaway in October
to one of my favorite cities, Prague, Czech Republic.
We booked the hotel yesterday, and what a bargain!
Less than £300 for six nights including breakfast AND it's
very close to the Old Town and the Jewish area Josefov.
(This usually makes it very expensive.)

I've been to Prague before and I can't wait to show my man
around! There is so much to see and I do recommend that
you go there at least once in your lifetime.

We're staying at Residence Verona and here's pictures:
